Welcome

Founded in 1916, the International Institute of Akron (IIA) is a non-profit agency that provides services to the foreign-born in Akron and the Summit County, Ohio community. Our mission is to contribute to the well being of our community by creating and implementing programs and services to assist the foreign born to integrate into our society, to promote public awareness of the value of ethnic diversity, and to encourage international communication.

The International Institute of Akron is recognized by the United States Department of Justice Board of Immigration Appeals to represent the foreign born. Our immigration counselors are accredited by the Board of Immigration Appeals and the US Department of Homeland Security to represent clients before the courts and the DHS. The International Institute of Akron is also a member of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI).

Interpreter Training - Please register for the Interpreter's Orientation workshop on April 11-12, 2013 (8:30 am - 4:30 pm). The fee is $100.00. Registration is open until April 5, 2013. Please click here for more information.

FREE Citizenship Classes - We can help you pass the citizenship test! Registration and placement testing is Tuesday, July 2 from 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. OR 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The next session begins July 9th and ends September 19.
Intermediate Citizenship class: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 8:30-10:00 a.m. or 5:30-7:00 p.m.
Beginning Citizenship class: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10-11:30 a.m. or 7-8: 30 p.m.
All classes include N-400 interview practice, reading, writing and civics instruction. Call Rebecca Jenkins at 330-376-5106, ext. 15 for more information. Students must have green cards. Provided by a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.

New Immigration Benefit - Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) allows undocumented young adults between the ages of 15 - 31 who are in high school, have graduated high school, or are attending GED classes to obtain employment authorization.
